My emotions were all over the place. Since I started at Bovisa, it has become a tradition that I travel to the company headquarters in Milan at the beginning of spring to spend time with the team.
This trip was different. Instead of returning to the place that brought me refuge and made me channel a more confident, loved version of myself, my emotions were erratic because it was inevitable that I was going to see him.
This was the first trip to Italy post Alessandro break-up, having been there three months prior for a romantic Christmas holiday together and the first time we were seeing each other in person after receiving his gut wrenching breakup text. He moved back to Italy from California after the company relocated him three years ago. Our whirlwind romance was short-lived during his last year in the U.S. Two weeks before his move, he broke up with me despite us agreeing to continue the long distance; after all if we could manage long distance between California and Boston, then Boston to Milan wouldn’t be too far of a stretch.
